AeroFlue Chimney Sweep CareCalabasas, CA

About Us

We're a chimney sweep company based in Calabasas, CA. We've worked this area long enough to know the neighborhoods, the housing stock, and the kinds of calls that come in regularly.

You call or book online, we give you an arrival window, and we show up inside it. Before the crew touches anything, you hear what the visit will cost and why. That number moves with what's actually on your roof and in your firebox: a single-story ranch with an easy chase cover is one thing, a steep two-story roof in the hills is another. If the flue is packed with a nest, if the spark arrestor has rusted shut, if the gas logs were converted by a previous owner and need to come apart to be checked, that changes the work and we say so out loud, on site, before we start. Nobody gets a surprise at the end.

We work the Greater Los Angeles / Ventura County corridor, and most of what we find in Calabasas reflects how these houses were built. Because most homes in this service area date from the 1960s onward, the dominant appliance is the factory-built prefab metal firebox with a double- or triple-wall class A metal chase chimney, usually topped with a sheet-metal chase cover, not a full masonry stack. Older sections of Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Culver City hold the genuine 1920s–1940s masonry inventory: clay-tile-lined or unlined brick flues, many unreinforced and cracked by Northridge (1994) and earlier quakes. The South Coast AQMD governs the basin and issues wintertime no-burn (Check Before You Burn) days November 1 – February 28, and that rule plus the mild winter has pushed most households to gas log sets and sealed gas inserts. Usage here is low, often a dozen fires a season, so creosote builds slowly. The calls we actually get are rodent, bird and raccoon nesting in unused flues, clogged or corroded spark arrestor screens, chase covers rusting and holding water, flashing dried out by UV that leaks the first atmospheric-river storm, dampers seized open, and gas logs that were never vented or converted correctly. Closer to the coast, marine-layer humidity and salt air eat caps and metal components faster. In wildfire zones, an intact, code-compliant spark arrestor is what keeps embers out of the attic.

The crew brings rod-and-brush sets sized to your flue, a HEPA vacuum, drop cloths for the hearth and floor, and a camera to run up the flue so you can see what we see instead of taking our word for it. For gas work we carry manometers, wrenches, burner and pilot parts, and we service Heatilator, Heat & Glo, Majestic, Napoleon, Superior and Empire units. We handle open masonry fireplaces, sealed gas inserts and factory-built prefabs: sweeping is one part of it, along with inspection, caps, liners, flues, fireboxes, chimney repair and gas fireplace repair. We do not do masonry or brickwork, and we will tell you who does. If we look up your flue and it doesn't need sweeping yet, we say that and charge you for the inspection, not for a cleaning you didn't need.

How we decide between a repair and a replacement

Does a rusted chase cover mean the whole chimney is finished? Usually not. Most homes we see in the Greater Los Angeles / Ventura County corridor are 1960s-onward builds with a prefab metal firebox and a class A chase. Those systems are assemblies. Parts come off. A pooling chase cover is one line item. A corroded spark arrestor screen is another. A dried-out flashing strip is a third. We price and replace the failed part, not the chimney.

The replacement answer changes when the firebox itself is compromised. Prefab panels crack. Listed units only accept the manufacturer's own replacement parts, and many models are long discontinued. When the part number no longer exists, repair stops being a choice. We say that plainly instead of improvising with mortar that was never listed for the unit.

Masonry is judged differently. The genuine 1920s–1940s stacks in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Culver City carry quake damage from Northridge and earlier. A stepped crack through an unlined brick flue is structural. A spalled crown is not.

Low usage matters too. A dozen fires a season means creosote is rarely the issue. Nesting is more common. So are seized dampers and corrosion. Ask us to photograph whatever we claim is failed.
